On August 6th the second edition of Clear Water Day took place. The day itself was combined with the anniversary of 150 years of Schiermonnikoog as a bathing beach and it was great. The weather at first was somewhat cloudy, which was good for the people who had joiend our early morning Yoga session. During the day the sun started to shine bright and the wind conditions picked up. Blokarting, kitesurfing and flysurfing were a succes! People really enjoyed themselves.
Presentations on marine litter and beach cleanup that followed ended up which the finding of a piece of an airplane, which (in all probability) looked like a part of WW2 plane. During the war at least 4 Brittish bombers crashed or landed on the Schiermonnikoog beaches on their way to Germany.
The theme for this year was “Education” and the money raised will go to setting up an educational programme for kids to make them more aware of what the effects of marine litter are and how they can help to reduce and prevent it. We raised a total of € 610,00 euro which is a bit less than least year’s event. That means we still need to raise € 2.390,00 to reach our goal so we can move forward with our educational programme. You can still help by making a donation via the donate button on our website.
Altogether we had an amazing day. People had a great time and the place was buzzing with activity.Check out the photo’s and video below and we hope to see you all next year.
