It’s been a while since her last guest blog but we could drag here away from her training for the next stop on the World Kite Tour. So without futher ado, here’s a word from ms Annabel van Westerop.
“We all know what water is, and what it means to our world. The world needs water to survive, the environment depends on it, more than half of our body consists of it, and the list goes on. But what does water mean to you? What is the first thing that pops to your mind when you think about water?
Water is a major factor in my life as a professional kite boarder. Without it, my sport wouldn’t even exist! Every day I spend hours in and around the ocean, so in the course of the past 8 years it has become an important factor in my life. It has become my playground and office at the same time. But most importantly it is my place where I can express myself and really be me. So what does it really mean to me? It gives me the feeling of freedom. Freedom to be myself, freedom to set my goals and achieve them, freedom to be flaw some, freedom to think or not think at all!
I have been very honored to be supporting Stichting Clear Water Initiative the past year. Unfortunately, water is not as endless and clean as it may sometimes appear at the beach. This organization helps in the places where people do not have the luxury of clean water. But even by doing small things, you can make a difference. Take some of the plastic off the beach next time you go for a session or a suntan and try to use as little plastic as you can in your daily life. A small step in the right direction, where water can give freedom to everyone!”
